Incarnational living is a key value of Eden, living among a community and being Jesus’ hands and feet in that place. Having a home in the neighbourhood is therefore an incredibly important thing for Eden teams. The Eden team in Walsall are blessed to have a good relationship with the local social housing provider: Walsall Housing Group (WHG). This relationship not only made a way to have the perfect house in the heart of the area but it is also continually opening new doors and new opportunities. By sharing their heart and vision for Walsall, WHG have offered to help the team in a number of ways, including helping host a Christmas party for families.
On Thursday 30 November, Eden Walsall opened up their church hall to the community. The party had a professional photographer providing family photos, Christmas craft activities and a retelling of the nativity story. Children were given costumes and joined in with one of the most haphazard and crazy retellings of the nativity ever witnessed. There was so much joy and laughter among the chaos. The party resulted in a shared dinner where the team were able to engage with and chat to many families from their community.
The team saw 45 adults and children attend the party, they were able to take away precious family photos, wonderful Christmas crafts and invitations to join with the church over Christmas.
Gav, Eden Walsall team leader, shares:
‘One child who came to the party who had never been to church before accepted our invitation and joined us on the following Sunday. She is now practicing her lines for one of the main parts in our Disney sing-along nativity on Christmas Eve!’
Thanks to the support of Walsall Housing Group, the team were able to put on an incredible party that has helped to deepen many relationships with the families of the community. The team are excited to continue the relationship with the housing group and to do more events like the Christmas party.
