Pete’s Story: Freedom from Isolation

Eden Farley Hill launched in Luton in late 2016. The team has been working in their local estate in partnership with a local church to share the gospel of Jesus in word and action with those around them.

Pete has lived most of his life on an estate in Luton. During his 20s he served time in prison for a serious crime and spent these years alternating between prison and a psychiatric hospital. Upon release, Pete’s paranoia led to an increasing isolation and reluctance to leave his home – let alone his estate. After several years of his self- imposed imprisonment, a friend suggested he joined a church.

This is when he came to St John the Baptist, our Eden Farley Hill partner church. Here Pete found community, friends and a group of people willing to invest in him. Pete wanted to read the Bible and so meets regularly with Ash, the Eden Farley Hill team leader, to read through the gospels.

Last year Ash invited Pete to join him and a few others to the opening night of Star Wars. For the first time in six years Pete stepped outside the estate where he lived. This freedom that Pete has gained means he’s been able to get two voluntary jobs – one of which means he has to travel into town alone each week. Thanks to the love of Jesus he’s encountered through our Eden team, he’s been set free to live his life more full.

We want to see more lives like Pete’s transformed by Jesus through our Eden teams. Join Eden today by heading to joineden.org.
