‘I lay in the boat in the baking sun, listening to my iPod… I could have been anywhere in the world, except I wasn’t – I was between one version of hell and another.’ Andy Hawthorne
You can now read Message CEO Andy Hawthorne’s journal, chronicling
his recent visit to Haiti, following the devastating earthquake of January 12.
Andy, along with Manchester pastor Anthony Delaney and charity Lemon Aid, spent several days in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, and the island of La Gonave, delivering much-needed medical supplies and aid.
Throughout the trip, Andy kept a journal of their work and experiences, providing us with an inside view of life after the quake. He wrote,
‘It’s a strange thing going to sleep, and each night planning your escape route knowing that if a big one hits, you have 15-20 seconds before the house starts coming down on you.’

We are putting on a special fundraising concert, ‘Heart for Haiti’, on Thursday 4 February at Manchester Apollo, featuring performances from Message bands LZ7 and Blush, eye-witness accounts from Andy and Anthony Delaney, and special guest Stephen Baldwin (from Celebrity Big Brother). Do come if you can.
Tickets are only £5 and can be ordered by phoning 0161 946 2300 or clicking here
