Our aim on GENETIK is train all our students in youth work and evangelism. Various key elements make up the core structure to the course:
Morning Teaching – Throughout the year we have biblical teaching on various themes from self, the Bible, evangelism, social action and the Kingdom of God. Our aim is to not only equip you with the knowledge of the scriptures, but to empower you to be all you can in God through the promises in His word. A good study Bible is essential for the course!
EDEN placement – When you start GENETIK you will be placed in teams spread around the city where we currently have Eden projects working into the local community. Part of GENETIK is to see yourself as part of that Eden team and experience what it is really like to not just talk about God, but to really live out your faith with the most needy and broken. Every Eden has a dedicated team leader who will help oversee your time there and make you feel welcome.
Youth work placements – All GENETIK students will also spend time doing youth work placements in the area they live whilst on the course. This provides a great platform to build into your local community, make a real difference where you are and put into practice all the things you will learn whilst on the course. Placements can vary from detached work to youth clubs, street soccer or homeless outreach, helping on the Eden buses or helping in your church activities.
Church placements– Every Eden project is partnered with a local church which will become your home for the 10 months of the course. GENETIK students often have a chance to get involved with the local ministries and home groups, as well as helping serve in various ways during the Sunday meetings.
Team Time – Every week we make time for GENETIK team time which comes in many different forms. Morning prayers happen throughout the week and takes a different focus each day. Every Friday is Reflexions where we make space to talk and pray through all that’s going on or simply make space for God to speak to us. There are two residential trips throughout the year for time to get away from Manchester and spend quality time with God and each other. All this and the odd trip to McDonald’s help us stay together as a team and learn to support one another through the course.
