Dear friends,
Due to a quite remarkable set of circumstances, I am going to travel to Haiti tomorrow.
You may know that we have a real heart for this troubled place and have been grieving with them after the catastrophic earthquake last week. Around 1,000 children are now sponsored through you, our wonderful supporters, and every time we take on a new member of staff we sponsor a child through Compassion. We have also sponsored several wells and water projects through our tithe fund.
Much of this work takes place on the desperately poor island of La Gonave. We discovered at the weekend that the one hospital on the island has collapsed and that they have run out of medicines and money (there has been a run on the banks in Haiti and it is impossible for them to access money).
Justin Dowds (Lemon Aid), by a real miracle, managed to talk Virgin Atlantic into giving us quarter of a tonne baggage allowance each, so tomorrow we will take one tonne of medical equipment into Haiti plus thousands of dollars that have been raised through church offerings. It is not too much to say that it is a real life or death mission. I was asked because I have the right innoculations and am familiar with Haiti, and have a real heart for this place.
It would mean such a lot if you would remember us in your prayers. We will be joining an aid flight into Port-au-Prince and then travelling on via road and boat to La Gonave. Obviously, this is no ordinary situation and if there was ever a time we needed ‘travelling mercies’ this is it! We will also inevitably be confronted with many dead, dying and suffering people. Pray that we can really be Jesus to these precious people and that all our equipment and finances get through safely.

Thanks so much. I will give you a report on my return.
God bless you,
Andy.
