Our work in South Africa is expanding faster than ever. Now with a host of schools teams, a rehabilitation centre, a café and a burgeoning Advance network, we’re seeing hundreds of lives impacted by the power of Jesus.
Late in 2016, the Message South Africa team opened the doors of The Oaks – a safe place for ex-offenders to put down roots and grow. Young men and women who find Christ in prison now have a place to stay when they’re released, where they’re able to join a community focused on discipleship.
We’ve also opened a Mess Café in the suburb of Mowbray in Cape Town, offering employment for ex-offenders. On a recent visit, our CEO Andy Hawthorne saw the café in action. ‘I love it! Hearing the stories of the guys working there – you know it’s only because of Christ.’
Andy was also able to launch the Advance network in South Africa. ‘I expected a dozen or so to turn up, but in the end 55 passionate evangelists piled into the room. They’re all desperate to grow in sharing the gospel and be accountable to one another. It truly is a beautiful thing to see.’
