Message Academy: Joe’s Story

‘Telling somebody the gospel and asking if they want to respond and say yes is one of the most awesome experiences you can have’

Academy class of 2017 graduated 10 weeks ago and now a new load of students are about to begin their course. Let’s take a look back at last year’s Academy as the students share some highlights from their year.

If you didn’t know, Message Academy is a gap year for anyone between the age of 18 and 25. It’s a year of training in youth work, evangelism and creative arts, designed to grow the students character, relationship with God and effectiveness in sharing the gospel.

Joe is one of the 15 students who were a part of the Message Academy family from 2016 to 2017. His personal development as a follower of Jesus is something he especially valued from his year with Academy.

Academy was hard but that by far is a good thing. No one ever grew who didn’t get pushed, Academy shaped and moulded me to be more like Jesus.

I’ve also never spent so much time with the same group of people, growing with them, loving them and through it all loving Jesus more! It was great seeing my mates and myself being discipled, growing in the truth of Christ and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

For Joe, seeing people come to Jesus for the first time or recommitting to Jesus if they had wandered away was one of the greatest things about Academy.

Telling somebody the gospel and asking if they wanted to respond and say yes, is one of the most awesome experiences you can have. This was especially true in South Africa where people would literally want to respond to Jesus on the streets!

Has Joe’s story inspired you? If you want to grow, be challenged and gain new experiences while taking your relationship with God deeper, then join us at Message Academy to discover all that God has in store for you.
