Message Academy: Joy’s Story

“It was amazing seeing such freedom in a place that would seem so restrictive and confining”

Message Academy is a gap year for anyone between the age of 18 and 25. It’s a year of training in youth work, evangelism and creative arts, designed to grow the student’s character, relationship with God and effectiveness in sharing the gospel. Let’s look back to last years Academy as some of the students share their highlights.

Joy was a part of the Message Academy family from 2016 – 2017. Academy provides opportunities to share the gospel in many challenging places around the UK and the world. For Joy, going in to prisons was something she found particularly inspiring.

An Academy highlight for me was going into prison, leading worship there and seeing how the prisons team interacts with the prisoners. It was amazing seeing such freedom in a place that would seem so restrictive and confining.

The amount of personal investment Joy received during her time at Academy enabled her to be the best missionary she could be and this was something that she particularly valued.

Getting so much personal investment over the course has been invaluable for me. From the teaching, music lessons, 1-2-1’s, morning staff prayers and devotional times, it meant that we could then give out in our placements. We were given all we needed to be good role models, in character and actions in placements and beyond.

Has Joy’s story inspired you? If you want to grow, be challenged and gain new experiences while taking your relationship with God deeper, then join us at Message Academy to discover all that God has in store for you.
