Breakthrough in Fir Vale

Nikky is our team leader for Eden Fir Vale (Sheffield). She shares with us a moment of breakthrough that recently happened in Fir Vale:

‘Back in October we joined with the guys at St Thomas Crookes church to pray for Fir Vale and our Eden team. As I was getting off the bus on my way home that day I noticed a large group of people gathered outside the local takeaways and shops. Instantly I started thinking, ‘oh no, there must be a fight happening and all these people are stood around watching’. As I approached the group, however, there didn’t seem to be any signs of violence at all.

I spotted a couple of teenage girls who come to our youth groups and so I asked them what was happening. They explained that, far from there being a fight, everyone was there to sing to Jesus! As I stuck around, the pastor of a local Slovakian church began leading the group in worship, aided only by a microphone and speaker. I watched as over 150 people worshipped outside on the street. It was a beautiful moment.

Afterwards I chatted to the pastor and some people from his church and they explained they do this all over Sheffield where there are Roma communities, and many gather to worship and meet with Jesus.’

More recently, team member Becky was stopped in the street by a girl who had seen her speak at her school assembly. At the assembly Becky had shared the story of the wise and foolish builders and how to build your life on what Jesus says. The girl asked Becky to sit down and retell the story right there and then before she asked her to come back to her home and retell the story to the 20 people, mostly adults, sitting in the room.

God is on the move in Fir Vale and we’re excited to hear more stories of transformation in that community.

The places in greatest need of the love of Jesus are often the places where the church is in decline. Eden sends urban missionaries to these places – to live sacrificially, share the gospel and build authentic community. Join Eden today by heading to joineden.org
