We’ve just launched an Eden team in Dagenham (London) on the Becontree Estate.
The Becontree Estate was the largest housing estate in the world developed nearly 100 years ago in order to house the overspill of the slums of the East End of London and is a perfect place for urban mission.
The team are partnering with Kingsley Hall Church and Community Centre, a mission-focused church who provide training and support for many people on the estate and the team.
The team are already working with a local community hub and are planning exciting events sych as summer BBQs and an open mic night.
Highlights from the last month include a prayer walk around the estate, engaging with local homeless people, praying for the current church members that live on the estate and praying for a neighbour down the street who shared about struggling with her faith.
Team leader Nathan shares…
‘On one occasion, while registering at my new GP, I met a young lady who opened up to me about how she’s suffering from fear and anxiety. I got to pray with her there and then and she gave me her contact details so that we as a church and Eden can look to establish a relationship with her and invite her to a weekly small group I’m starting up from the end of February.’
Please pray for the Eden Dagenham team – that lives will be changed in this area where there are high levels of youth crime, poverty, poor health and homelessness. The team would also love you to join with them in praying for God to stir hearts of people with a desire for being a part of his mission in Dagenham, to join the team and to share the vision.
‘Our prayer is that we will be carriers of joy and hope and that some of those negative headlines will be reversed as God sends his healing to our beautiful area.’
