Higher South Wales: ‘It was unlike anything we’ve ever seen’

In November 2018 the Higher Tour visited South Wales and we’re still seeing the impact of this extraordinary mission. Over 35 schools days and four high- energy evangelistic gigs, our mission teams were able to share the gospel with over 17,000 young people.

One of our partner churches outside Merthyr Tydfil had been faithfully praying for 35 years to get into their local school and build a relationship with them. The head of RE at that school booked the Higher Tour to come, giving the church their first link into the school.

Before Higher kicked off, SoulBox, one of our bands, headed to the school and in faith the church stepped out and booked a coach to take young people from the school to the Valleys gig. After the SoulBox visit, the school was buzzing. The church filled the 45-seater coach they had booked, and had to book a second coach the day before the gig. Even more amazingly, 62 of the 96 responses that night were made by young people from this school!

This tour also saw an unprecedented openness and acceptance to the gospel in the schools themselves. Daniel, singer and beatboxer for mission team BrightLine, said ‘It’s rare that in school hours we are allowed to do a gospel presentation, let alone a response. However, in one of the schools we were allowed to do this and saw 300 pupils respond to what we said. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen.’

Please continue to pray for all of the young people who started their journey of faith during the tour, that they’d stay connected with their local church and truly become culture-shifting disciples in South Wales. Pray also for our partner churches as they continue to build relationships with their local schools and for their ongoing role in the lives of young people.

If you have a story from the Higher Tour then we’d love to hear it! Email caitlin.woodington@message.org.uk so that we can celebrate all God is doing.
