Music, dance and the gospel at Re:act

Every week, our Eden team in Ladbroke Grove (West London) run a fun and relaxed drop-in youth club for 8-11 year olds.

It’s a great place for the young people in the community to come and engage with their peers through activities such as table tennis, craft, football, rap and many more. For the team it’s a place to build trusting relationships with the children as they play, listen, give advice and talk about life. The club is open to all children, of all faiths and backgrounds because loving people and meeting their needs is the outworking of the Christian faith.

The team also aim to give age appropriate opportunities for the young people to explore Christianity through events and through holiday clubs, which is just what happened when they put on Re:act, a performing arts holiday club.

Partnering with a London based charity, Reach Global UK, as well as a local church they put on an amazing week of dance, drama, music, boom-whackers (if you know, you know!), drums and so much more. As well as all that they shared the gospel in fun and creative ways and gave space for discussion and prayer. For many, this was the first time they had heard the gospel and the team had some really thoughtful conversations which was great to see.

It all culminated in a big … no wait, HUGE performance at the end of the week where friends and family could see all that the children had learnt that week including the Boom Whackers (seriously google it, you won’t be disappointed). It was a proud moment for them all seeing how far the children had come – watching those who were shy and quiet at the beginning of the week belt out the songs and having such a good time.

Eden Ladbroke Grove are already in talks about Re:Act 2020, and their hope is to get local artists and performers to help out and own it!
