Academy – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is it for?

Anyone between the age of 17-25 can apply for Message Academy if you have a heart for mission, evangelism and using your gifts to serve God.

How much does it cost?

The cost is £2,495 for the year – this covers your course fees and all of your accommodation costs including bills. A £200 non-refundable deposit is required once you are accepted onto the course with the full balance due in the September you start. You’ll also need a recommended personal allowance of around £200 a month to cover your food and travel costs. We will help you with fundraising and encourage you to find personal monthly supporters to help you cover the costs. Don’t let the money put you off – please talk to us and we can journey with you through different stages of fundraising and finances.

What support will I receive?

You will have the chance to meet with your course leaders on a weekly basis, to ask questions, to journey with them, to be accountable and to ensure you are supported. You will also be assigned a mentor from the Message family. They are there to support you and keep you accountable to all that God has called you to.

Where will I live?

You will be given your own room in one of our Message houses in Manchester within walking distance of the facilities. You will share the house with other students and be responsible for your own food and day to day travel, but bills and rent are covered in the course fees. All furniture will be provided but you’ll need to bring your own bedding and some kitchenware.

Can I attend an Open Day?

Yes – Our Open Day/Interview Days are currently running online and will give you the chance to see around The Message in Manchester, learn more about Message Academy and chat to the leaders and current students. We also have an interview day with you so we can get to know you, as well as you getting to know us.

We would love to chat to you and answer any questions you might have, so please do get in touch with our team.

What teaching will I get?

Our Bible teaching explores various themes such as Bible Overview, Evangelism Techniques, Understanding The Gospel, Leadership, Mission and many more. You will also have the option to get specific tuition in the creative arts (e.g. vocals, rap and street dance) where you can grow in your giftings. We also run workshops which are more discussion based in areas such as Youth Work and Justice, plus on-the-job training as you get stuck in with placements in youth clubs, outreach cafés and more.

Will I get a job/chance to work for The Message at the end?

We do not promise that anyone will automatically get a job with The Message after Message Academy finishes, but we are committed to helping you find the right way to outwork your gifts in ministry beyond the course. Sometimes that can mean working with The Message, but many students go on to be part of all kinds of ministry at the end of the course.

Can I get a part time job?

Message Academy is a full-time gap year so there will not be time to find paid work at the same time. It is advised that you try to raise all the money you will need before the start of the year or ask people to sponsor you on a monthly basis to cover your costs. (We have people who will be able to help you with fundraising if you need it.)

Do we get holidays?

We follow academic holidays with two weeks off at Christmas and Easter, a week’s half term in October and February, as well as bank holidays.
