We had an incredible week as 27 young people came along to our Genetik Session Summer School packed with creative workshops.
Each day, our team helped young people explore and express their creativity through music production sessions, drum lessons, dance classes and vocal workshops, all whilst sharing more about how loved and valued the young people are by God. At the end of the week, the young people had the opportunity to put on a showcase where they performed all they’d learnt to friends and family.
At the start of the week, Ila really struggled with her self-confidence in the drum workshops. She even said to the team that she didn’t want to perform in the end-of-week show. However, with support and encouragement from the team and hearing more about how valued she is, by the end of the week, she performed a song during the showcase and came off the stage smiling and really proud of herself!
Another lad, Zain, also started the week feeling really shy but after the showcase, his mum got chatting with the team saying, ‘His confidence has completely skyrocketed this week and I can see a complete shift in him!’
The team also got to know Mason. In the music production class, he loved learning about building a song from scratch, creating a melody and writing lyrics. Inspired by the workshops, he spent the week writing lyrics all about what Jesus means to him and got the chance to perform his music at the showcase. He even got chatting with the team saying that his dream job one day would be to be in one of the Message bands!
