Despite the challenges of the past year, our Eden Team in Whitmore Reans, Wolverhampton, have seized all opportunities to bless their community and share the gospel with their neighbours. From running breakfast clubs and delivering food parcels, to creating craft packs for the children, the team have loved connecting with local families and sharing the hope of Jesus.
As they stepped out in faith, the team have seen many lives transformed by the love of Jesus during lockdown, lives like Myra’s*:
Myra is around 80 years old has been struggling with loneliness and hunger – she had no food in her house at all when the team first met her! She was lacking support, friendship and hope.
Once the team heard that Myra was feeling this way and unable to get any groceries, Melly – one of the Eden Whitmore Reans team members – visited her with a food package. Myra was so grateful and through tears she shared that she had had nobody to talk to since September! Melly stayed and chatted to Myra, getting to know her and prayed with her, asking God to give Myra new hope and friendships.
When Melly returned, Myra was doing much better – she was alert, her voice stronger and said that she had slept better than she had in a long time. Since then, the team have been able to deliver further gifts of fresh food, a Bible and even a rollator walking frame which has given Myra a new lease of life! The Bible has brought Myra joy and comfort, and she has been chatting through all her questions about God with Melly when they meet up.
Myra has been so encouraged that she said to Melly, ‘I am going to talk to God and thank him for taking care of me. I now feel more loved than I have in my whole life!’
Another team member, Shekinah, also got to know one neighbour David* and share the hope of the gospel with him:
‘I recently felt God nudge me to be bold and share the gospel with David. As I did, his eyes welled up and he told me that every time something goes wrong, or he chooses to follow a wrong path, God sends someone to speak to him. He found it so encouraging that God loves him enough to send someone to chat to him at just the right time!
‘Just then, his girlfriend Deborah* joined us and shared that she felt really unsure about God and what it meant to accept Jesus into her life. As I chatted about the gospel and how God is a good Father that loves them, David and Deborah started to cry and said they would both like to give their lives to Jesus! We prayed together and now David and Deborah have both joined our online Bible study!’
Wherever the gospel is shared in this community, we are seeing God working in amazing ways around Whitmore Reans. He’s bringing new life, new hope and healing to many families in the area and we can’t wait to see more of what he will do!
