Message Academy: On Mission in London

A few months ago, a team of Message Academy students from Manchester headed to London for five days of mission. They ran lessons in schools, youth work, impromptu estate evangelism and even a rap battle – all underpinned by worship and prayer.

Working in Edmonton in North London, an area often in the news for knife crime and its high crime rate, the students brought a very different kind of news.

Whilst in the capital, the team had many amazing opportunities to share the gospel, whether through serving hotdogs to high- school students alongside members of the local church or praying with neighbours in the area.

‘Our plans for one of the evenings were cancelled’, says Aaron, North London Evangelism Enabler. ‘We decided to pray over all of the estates in Enfield, asking God which one we should go to. We all had the same one on our hearts – Shires estate.

‘We turned up with zero plans, but the Holy Spirit led us the whole time. Many of the team had words of knowledge and pictures for the people we chatted to and we shared the gospel with many on the estate. Some of the team even managed to spend time in a local youth club and got to witness to the young people there. The night culminated in a rap battle between one student, Tolu, and a few guys on the estate. Tolu also shared the gospel with them and it was evident this made a real impact.’
