Transforming Lives In Wythenshawe

We’re only two days into our week of mission on the streets of Wythenshawe, Manchester, and we’re already hearing some amazing stories of what’s happening as we chat to people.

One of the places where a team are doing a ‘Groundforce-style’ garden makeover is at Mo’s house. Unable to keep on top of the garden due to ill health, it had become completely overgrown and unsafe for him to use. As the team started work on his garden yesterday, Gary from the team got chatting to Mo and told him about the Community Grocery. Mo was really interested in the grocery and thought it would really help him, so Gary took him to visit and signed him up for a membership.

As Gary and Mo carried on chatting over lunch, Mo said ‘this is the happiest day of my life. I feel so welcome and accepted here’ and asked if he could come back not just for his grocery food shop, but to just come and sit and spend time with our teams. And after hearing about Jesus, Mo is desperate to learn more and is looking forward to coming to church!

Throughout the week, one of our Message Buses is also out in Wythenshawe. Yesterday it was in Hollyhedge Park where a group of young people came to see what was happening. As they climbed on board to use the games consoles, nail bars, climbing walls, slides and to chat with our team, they heard about how much Jesus loved them. There and then 18 young people accepted Jesus into their lives and are already getting plugged into a discipleship courses and want to come along to church this Sunday!
