Two years of Eden Dagenham

Eden Dagenham in East London has been working with their partner church in their local community for almost two years. Team leader Nathan shares an update from their team:

God has been opening doors over the past year as we have gained access to previously unreachable housing blocks, schools and people groups. We’ve seen incredible favour with young people, local residents, council members and teachers.

Our prayer is now that in year three, we will discern God’s blueprint for sustainable and long-term transformation. Please read the following stories from our team.

Ebele’s story

‘It started with a knock on the door to connect me with Eden and it came at the right time when I had given up on church. We have met wonderful people who show nothing else than the love and kindness of Jesus. I and my family have now made Kingsley Hall our home church and are happy to be a part of the family.’

Ebele has now started hosting a home group in her house on the estate and has also started volunteering at our nursery.

Jason’s story

Jason lives on the estate, is visually impaired and is from a Hindu background. He was suffering from isolation and loneliness. As I built trust and friendship with Jason, it transpired that he was in need with some help redecorating. With the help of a neighbour, Darren, we were able to decorate and install some furniture with Jason. He is now good friends with Jason and they regularly have dinner together.

The greatest part of the story is that Jason also responded to the gospel through an encounter with Jesus and has been attending church and building friendships with other church members.

Dagenham Park High School

Following the success of the Christian Union last year with the sixth form, the school asked me to establish another CU for all ages. This has been very exciting. We started with just one year 9 student and we now have approximately 17 young students attending every week. I am giving opportunities for the older students to lead on teaching. We have seen and amazing nine students respond to the gospel.

We have also established a partnership with FareShare and receive weekly donations of surplus foods which we distribute twice weekly to the estate.

This is just a snapshot of how God has been working in through the Eden Dagenham. I’m so excited to see what will happen in the coming year and to see how God will transform lives on this estate.
