From dancing to deciding to follow Jesus

Our Genetik Sessions dance students in Derby recently had the chance to perform at a city-wide Youth Prayer and Worship Night. As they did, one of the students, Alice*, had her life turned around by Jesus. We chatted with Naomi, one of the Genetik tutors, to hear more.

‘It was such an incredible event and the students all did so well! As they performed a dance piece to the song ‘Peace’, you could feel the atmosphere in the room shift and the young people’s hearts being prepared for worship.

‘For me, one of the most encouraging things about the evening was that Alice, who’d never been to church before, came along because she was part of the performance and loves to dance.

‘When the event started, as people worshiped, Alie saw that some people were raising their hands and wanted to know more. So we talked about how raising our hands can be an expression of surrender, praise, and worship to God. Later in the evening, as I looked over Alice was joining in with the worship and raising her own hands!

‘When the speaker shared about the importance of reading the Bible, she turned to me and said, “I’d love to have a Bible.” And then as the talk went on and explored the power of the Holy Spirit, the young people were given the chance to respond. Alice’s hand went straight up in the air.

‘It was an incredible reminder that God is at work in the lives of young people. What began for Alice as an invitation to perform became an opportunity for her to encounter God. We’re excited to continue walking with her as she explores faith and grows in her relationship with Jesus.’
