Being Part Of The Solution

As we kick off the final week of the Blackburn and Darwen No More Knives Tour and gear up to the end-of-tour gig this Friday, we caught up with missions team SoulBox to hear first-hand the difference they’ve been making to young people in school.

‘We’re loving being part of the No More Knives Tour going into schools across Blackburn leading sessions in partnership with Lancashire Police. Each lesson or assembly combines music with powerful stories and teaching, aimed at equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to say ‘no’ to knives and start to discover their full value and identity.

‘Just last week we got to see the real impact the tour’s having as two young people decided to give up their knives after taking part in a lesson in their school!

‘One girl came up to us at the end of the day and asked us how she could get rid of a knife that she’d given to her friend. After bravely chatting with her teacher about it, she became part of the solution to knife crime rather than the problem by reporting the situation and asking for help.

‘And that wasn’t all! After another lesson discussing how carrying a knife can endanger you and those around you, one student left their knife under their seat! The knife was then found and handed straight to teachers.

‘Chatting with the school staff at the end of the day, they said that they were shocked the student had handed the knife in as he’d been involved in knife crime in the past and grown up in a turbulent household. However, after taking part in the lesson, he decided to say ‘no’ to knife crime and choose a different path, handing in the knife instead of keeping it! It’s amazing to see first-hand what God is doing and the way he’s transforming lives through this tour.

‘We can’t wait for the gig at Blackburn Cathedral this Friday where we’re inviting young people we’ve seen in schools over the last three weeks  for a night of epic music, and they’ll also hear us boldly share the gospel! Do pray lives are transformed for good.’
