Community Groceries’ Impact

Community Groceries have a positive impact on members, their families, our in-store volunteers and the environment.

Since we opened the doors of our first store in 2020, highlights have included:

  • Over 80,000 member households fed
  • 15 million meals provided to those in need
  • 5,750 tonnes of waste saved from waste
  • 1.18 million shopping trips done in our stores

(From Sep 2020 to Dec 2025)

2025 Impact Report

“I live near the Telford store and people told me what a great place it was. Three years ago, family illness meant money got tighter than ever and I didn’t know where the next meal was coming from. It was then that I decided to try the Community Grocery.I went in with my mum and couldn’t believe what I could get for £5, it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.”

– Kerry-Ann, Telford Community Grocery member

Green choices should be for everyone

Thanks to our work rescuing and distributing surplus food, when someone shops at a Community Grocery they also play their part in protecting the environment and saving around 1,000 tonnes of food from being wasted each year. Some food is close to or just past its ‘best before’ date but is perfectly fine to eat. Other items have packaging mistakes or come from supermarket ordering errors. All of it would have gone to landfill. We believe people on a budget shouldn’t be priced out of making green choices; Community Groceries make planet-friendly options open to all.
