Over 1,250 people prayed for. 500 free Bibles given away. The gospel shared 725 times. 6 healings. 41 responses to the gospel.
This is the incredible impact that 130 young people from London, South Wales and the North East had this summer as they took to the streets to share their faith with those around them as part of The Scattering mission weeks.
Each of the weeks was rooted in prayer, worship and teaching that equipped the young people to share the gospel clearly and boldly with those they met, before they were sent out to put everything into practice.
At each week this started straight away as the young people were encouraged in the first session to text some of their friends and family offering to pray for them. Then throughout the week they were challenged to follow those texts up by sending a Bible verse that would encourage them and even giving them a call during which they shared the gospel.
One girl decided she was going to send a text to 30 of her friends. She couldn’t believe how many responses she got as her friends were so blessed by her message, many not realising that she was a Christian! Lots of them explained how they wanted to know more and how some had even recently become interested in finding out more about Christianity. It was a great opportunity to share about Jesus.
Miri, had explained at the start of the week that she wasn’t sure about being part of The Scattering as she’d suffered a lot with anxiety and hadn’t told any people that she was a Christian. So, when it came to ringing a friend, she was naturally nervous, but was determined to do it saying, ‘I can’t tell strangers about Jesus and not tell the people I care most about’. She ended up sharing the gospel with her friend and after a 10-minute phone call, Miri led her friend to Jesus!
In London, as one team were out in Ilford praying for people, they felt like God was leading them to go into a charity shop and give the people there Mark’s gospel. When went in one of the young people, called Mark, got chatting with the guy behind the till who laughed and said, ‘My name’s Mark too!’ Not only that, one of the young people had bought drink earlier with the name ‘Mark’ on it and had it in his hands. This gave the young people an opening to chat to the people they met in the shop, sharing how God knows each of us by name.
Mark asked which church the young people were part of, as they said City Gates Church in Ilford Mark was shocked saying, ‘No way! I’m a member of the Community Grocery there and the team always pray for me!’
At the end of the London week, one of the young leaders Bri decided to get a taxi home. When she got in the driver asked her why she was leaving church so late. Bri was then able to tell him about The Scattering week and what she and the teams had been up to. Immediately, the driver said, ‘Wow, my wife met a bunch of you guys, and she came home smiling. I haven’t seen her smile in a year! You won’t know this, but she’s been battling severe depression for a while now and it has been really hard. But that day, I saw her genuinely happy. She’s been different ever since! She keeps reading this book they gave her called Mark. What is it all about?’ So there in the taxi, Bri shared about Jesus with the taxi driver and by the end of the journey, the man gave his life to Jesus!
