Hope in store - The Message

As our Community Groceries continue to grow to meet the increasing demand of families struggling this winter, we’re hearing amazing stories not only of how people are getting the food and wrap-around support that they need, but of how God is transforming lives as people hear the good news of Jesus.

In Telford, Amita* came in store last month. As she got chatting with the team she mentioned that she had chronic pain in her back, and that nothing would relieve the pain she was in. Store manager Sarah immediately offered to pray for Amita and the next week, Amita ran into the grocery saying that her back was completely better, and that she hadn’t had any discomfort since Sarah prayed for her! The team are continuing to get to know Amita, taking every opportunity possible to tell her about Jesus, and we’re excited to see what God is going to do in her life.

Beatrice* is a member of our Newcastle store. Facing a lot of financial difficulties she shared with Rachel (the assistant manager) that she was feeling anxious, stressed and hopeless. Not knowing how she was going to afford her shopping, she asked if she could use a pay-it-forward note to cover the cost of her food. At the till, the team offered to pray for her and she said ‘yes’. The next week, Beatrice popped into the store to tell Rachel that God had answered her prayer! She shared how things had started falling into place since praying and that she was starting to have breakthrough in her housing and financial situations. She couldn’t believe it and was so thankful and wants to find out more about Jesus.

Up in Glasgow, the team have been getting to know Trevor* who started coming along to the community café ran by the grocery’s partner church in the same building as the Community Grocery. Just before Christmas, the team were chatting with him and he shared how he was finding it difficult to afford his weekly shop, so they suggested Trevor signed up to become a Community Grocery member. Since then, the difference in Trevor has been amazing. His confidence has grown, he’s eating healthier, he’s building new relationships with people in the community and he’s told the team he feels less angry. He’s even started volunteering in the café and is growing in his faith every day, enjoying praying with the team and experiencing more of the Holy Spirit. How amazing!

Do be praying for Amita, Beatrice and Trevor as they discover more of Jesus’ love for them.
