Bringing Families Closer - The Message
Jesus' love in action in Ely

Bringing Families Closer

We love nothing more than getting into our local communities sharing the love of Jesus in word and action. Last week, Message Wales team were out in Ely (Cardiff) serving the community there. As they made over gardens, tidied streets and prayed for their neighbours, God’s love was on display.

One of the days, the team met Margaret. As they got chatting, Margaret told the team that it was her husband that used to look after the front garden, but she’d lost him a few years ago and it now needed a fresh lease of life. Matt from the team asked Margaret what her favourite flowers were and she said fuchsias and angel wings, so he went to get some of these to brighten the garden and for her to plant around her husband’s headstone.

Before leaving for the day, the team got to pray with Margaret and her daughter. The very next day, Margaret went along to the church our team were based in for the week with a tin of homemade chocolate chip Welsh cakes to say thank you. They then got chatting again and are linking her up with the local church.

Jackie, was another lady the team met who’d asked for help clearing her her front and back gardens so that they were safe for her grandchildren to play in when they visit.

Over two and a half days, the team cleared all the rubbish out of the garden, got rid of the brambles, cut the grass, trimmed the hedges and gave Jackie and her family a swing, slide and see-saw set for the grandchildren to play on.

Chatting with Jackie throughout the week, she shared that she’d lost her husband six years ago and then lost her father during the pandemic. This had a massive impact on both her and her 11 year-old son. As they chatted, you could see the impact that the garden transformation was having on her and she said ‘The garden will help bring my family closer.’
