Finding God in prison

As our prisons teams across the country journey alongside the men and women they’re working with, they’re seeing God transform lives. Here are some stories from the team.

Getting to know Jesus

One of the team said, ‘I recently got chatting with Gregg* on the wing who’s been really interested in dark spirituality. As we chatted, I was able to share more about the light of Jesus and how special it is that we can have a real, personal relationship with God ourselves.

‘At first, Gregg struggled with the idea that we can talk to God whenever we like and can invite him into our lives without needed to go and see a priest. I shared a salvation prayer with him to look over and think about, and then went to go and chat to some other lads on the wing. An hour later, Gregg found me and said he prayed the prayer in his cell and accepted Jesus into his life. He’s asked for a Bible and is excited to start reading it!’

‘I want to find a church’

‘I’ve been working with a woman in prison and during her time there, she’s found Jesus. After being in prison for 15 years, she’s been keen to find a church out in the community. I contacted a local church and set up a meeting for her, the church minister and me to get to know each other.

‘On Christmas Day, she went to the church and was so nervous about what people would think of her. But God was amazing and the church have welcomed her in. She is planning to go to this church every week and can’t wait to grow in her faith and have some more discipleship’, said one of our team.
