Wow, we’ve just launched the 35th Community Grocery and, before the doors even opened, we saw someone respond to Jesus!
When the team were getting the store ready, they got chatting with two men who were curious what was happening. As the conversation continued, the team shared the gospel with these men and one responded to Jesus there and then! And that’s just one story.
Driver to disciple
Community Grocery member Dave* has been coming along to one of our partner churches in the North East. Although he didn’t believe in Jesus himself yet, Dave drove Community Grocery members to church every week to make sure anyone who wanted to go could get there easily. After coming to church services for a while and continuing to get to know the team at the Community Grocery, Dave decided to give his life to Jesus!
Since then, he’s connected in with the local Eden team, is growing in faith and is getting baptised, alongside Kirsty*, one of the Community Grocery volunteers who came to know Jesus after finishing an Alpha course! Thank God for Dave and Kirsty’s faith!
Turning things around
In Netherton (Merseyside), the team have been getting to know a Community Grocery member who had been struggling with alcohol addiction, but who’s just celebrated one month sober! He recently caught up with the team saying, ‘Using the grocery and not drinking has meant that I’m eating healthier than I’ve ever done and I’m also financially better off. So much so that I’ve been able to put some spare money towards a training course to get a trade.’
Discovering Jesus
Francesca* has been volunteering in the Community Grocery in South Bank (Middlesbrough). As the team got to know her, they invited Francesca along to the Open Well meetings where people come together for food, worship and to hear testimonies of how Jesus has changed lives. When Francesca was there, she got chatting with the grocery managers explaining that she was involved in tarot cards and other spiritual practices. The managers were able to pray with her and share the gospel. Francesca was really impacted and decided to give up tarot and instead give her life to Jesus! She’s now getting plugged in with the church and she hopes to get baptised soon!
Saying ‘yes’ to Jesus
At a recent Toasty Friday coffee and catch up time at Ilford Community Grocery, the gospel was shared and one woman was so impacted by Jesus’ love for her that she gave her life to him there and then! Since then, she’s been coming along to church on Sundays and telling her friends about Jesus.
