It’s only been one week since our latest Community Grocery in Bedworth opened its doors for the first time and we’ve already had over 500 new members sign up!
One of those we’ve met is Ian who’d come in feeling anxious about his first visit. After chatting with him and getting to know him, he started opening up about his life and how excited he is to now have access to fresh and affordable food. Ian explained that he couldn’t normally afford a variety of fruit and vegetables but being able to shop at the Community Grocery has meant he’ll be able to try new things and include much more fresh fruit in his shop each week! As the team get to know Ian over coming weeks, they’re excited to share more about the hope and peace Jesus offers.
Dave in Newcastle has also been enjoying the selection of fruit he’s been able to access in store. He said ‘Joining the grocery has been a complete life changer. Our fruit bowl is always full, and my kids eat a lot of fruit now – as much as they want – so our diet has improved loads because we don’t need to cut back on fresh things because of the cost! And best of all, we have a community! All the staff genuinely care, ask how you are and really mean it.’
Passionate that no one should go hungry, young lad Oliver in Hexham was given some money by his parents and decided to use it to buy memberships for families in need at the Community Grocery! He gave over £100 towards memberships and shops saying ‘I don’t want to see anyone go hungry!’ It’s amazing to see how the community is coming together to keep families fed.
