‘Your lyrics gave me hope in a dark time’

SoulBox have just got back from an incredible couple of weeks of mission with our team at Message Canada.

Alongside Georgia, who heads up the operations for creative mission here in the UK, the team took part in two weeks of schools mission, youth work, dance workshops and gospel-centred concerts reaching over 3,300 people – all with the aim of sharing the love and hope of Jesus with young people in Canada. And wow, did they see God move!

The team visited five schools and shared truth-filled lessons on identity with the high school students, as well as getting to tell primary school aged children how they’ve each been created in the image of God and are deeply loved by him.

Each high school student was invited to one of two evangelistic concerts where they could hear music from SoulBox as well as the gospel message. At one of these gigs, 30 young people responded to the gospel and at the other, 31 responded, with five people also deciding to give their lives back to Jesus!

As they were in school, teachers kept sharing how many of the students were impacted by how relatable Ben and Sammy’s lyrics and testimonies were for them, and how they helped them see that God can move in even the most difficult situations. Before one show, a boy got chatting with Ben and said that he’d actually been listening to SoulBox for over a year! Their song ‘New Me’ had randomly come up on his ‘Spotify Radio’ during a dark time in his life, and he said that the lyrics gave him hope when he needed it most. It was so encouraging to see how God used their music from the UK to encourage this boy in Canada.

In one of the schools lessons, SoulBox were also able to invite some of the students along to the youth night that the local church was running. That evening, 15 young people from the school went along for the first time. One of these was a girl who said her family hasn’t been to church for a long time but, after the youth night hearing more music from SoulBox and the God Slot she said she wanted to come back to church! How amazing!

Alongside SoulBox being in schools, Georgia was invited to teach dance workshops at a local youth dance studio, teaching the young people a dance routine that three of them later performed on stage with SoulBox at one of the gigs. Two of these girls, who were sisters, after hearing the gospel at the gig gave their lives to Jesus! Their mum was in the audience too and loved that Message Canada had put on the event for young people in the area. To support them going forward, a Christian mum from the dance studio is connecting the family in with the local church so do be praying for them as they find out more about Jesus.

It was such an amazing couple of weeks, seeing many come to know Jesus, and doors opening up for future creative mission and schools tours in Canada!
