A day in the life

Every week, our teams head into schools up and down the country with power-packed lessons sharing the hope of Jesus. We caught up with Lydia and Naomi, to hear what a day in school usually looks like for them.

7am – Everything we do is rooted in prayer so, as we drive to the school, we pray that God would impact the lives of the young people and teachers we’re going to meet.

8am – Once we’re at the school, we get set up and chat to the local church partner about the day, the end-of-tour outreach gig and how we can support them as they journey alongside the young people.

8:45am – The lessons begin! Whether we’re in the class with Respect ME lessons, The Ultimate Influencer tour or a No More Knives tour, we’re always looking to see if God is pointing us to specific young people to support.

11am – At break time, we connect with the students. It’s amazing hearing how much they take away from the lessons. Just the other week after a lesson on mental health, one young person said, ‘I now know how to find help for myself and my friend.’

11:30am – It’s time for more lessons. We love seeing the moment where something clicks for the students and they understand more of who God has made them to be. After a recent boys’ session on respect, the lads shared with us, ‘We all have equal value and deserve respect’ and ‘We are priceless’. How amazing!

1pm – Lunch time is a great time to meet the students and connect them with our church partner so that they know how they can find out more about Jesus and get plugged into what’s happening locally.

2pm – We’re always amazed how quickly the last lesson comes around but we’re just as expectant that God will move in the lives of the young people as we were first thing this morning!

3pm – Once lessons finish, we chat to the staff about any safeguarding concerns and how young people could be supported with any of the issues discussed in the classroom.

4pm – On the way home, we thank God for all he did during the day. Then we rest and get ready to go again tomorrow, full of gratitude and expectancy that God continues to move in the lives of the young people we’ve met.

What a privilege that we get to do this every day and see God changing lives as we head into schools.

Being a schools worker isn’t just about delivering lessons – it’s about loving a school community, building strong relationships with staff and students and creating spaces where young people feel safe and can discover more about Jesus and his plan for their lives.
