The first Message Community Grocery was launched in Sharston back in September after our Lockdown Hunger programme highlighted just how desperate life had become for so many in our community as they struggled to feed their families. With the added pressure and impact of Covid, not only were we able to help with them get the food they needed, but also help share the gospel too.
Since then, the Message Community Grocery has gone from strength to strength, and soon had almost a thousand members – all of whom we were able to share the good news of Jesus with. In addition to access to food, members can also sign up to a variety of services to help support them ranging from counselling to debt management in partnership with CAP, as well as explore more about the good news of Jesus through Alpha and the4points courses.
But we knew that a single Community Grocery in Sharston is not enough, especially with millions of families across the country facing hardship and hunger, so we are doing more and rolling out groceries across the UK.
Through partnerships with local churches, we’re on track to launch six new Community Groceries in Salford, Wigan, Bolton, Hexham, Ragworth and Sheffield by the end of March, with another six planned to by the end the year too!
This wouldn’t be possible without the help of our supporters who, through our Christmas Campaign, have helped us to get these Community Groceries off the ground, allowing us to share the love of Jesus in words and actions.
