We had an epic time connecting with young people at the Greater Manchester Prayer Youth Gathering last week and saw over 200 young people coming together and getting passionate about prayer and worship.
At the event, team member Georgia got chatting with two girls, Kiera and Taylor, and asked whether there was anything they’d like prayer for. At first, they started to laugh, but as time went on they started to open up about some difficult situations they were facing. As Georgia prayed with them she was able to tell them how much Jesus loved them and how God is always with them. As she said this, the girls had big smiles on their faces and looked so much lighter.
After praying, Taylor said, ‘I really felt that’ which Kiera followed up with ‘I’m so full of hope now!’ and started asking Georgia questions about how to pray and read their Bibles. After giving them a Bible each, showing them the Bible app on their phones and connecting them with The Higher Tour online content, Georgia asked if the girls wanted to try praying themselves. Although they seemed nervous at first, Georgia reassured them that they didn’t need the perfect words but just to share with God what’s on their mind. Kiera said she’d give it a go and prayed for Georgia there and then.
Kiera then encouraged Taylor to pray as well saying, ‘It’s really easy, just say what you’re thinking’ so Taylor said a short prayer and looked so happy afterwards. She said to Georgia, ‘I’ve been praying this week and felt like God wasn’t listening to me, but now I know that he is!’
The Greater Manchester Youth Prayer event was run in partnership with 24-7 Prayer. As well as holding more events in Manchester, we’re planning to hold a youth prayer event in Birmingham too later this year. Follow our social media to hear more about this as the details are released.
