We love nothing more than seeing young people stepping into who God has called them to be – and this is what Genetik Sessions are all about. Through creative workshops in rap, dance, singing and music production, the team are able to support young people as they grow in their giftings, and have countless opportunities to share the love of Jesus and the gospel with them.
When two young people came along to Genetik Sessions in Derby last year, they were quiet, anxious and unsure how to connect with others. They’d said they had struggled to connect with youth groups in the past and lacked the confidence to fully participate. But something began to change as they got involved with Genetik’s spoken word sessions.
Surrounded by encouragement and given space to express themselves, they started writing their own material, including a powerful track titled ‘My Voice Has Value’, where they shared how faith has shaped their journeys.
Their transformation wasn’t just creative, it was personal. Confidence grew to the point where they performed a duet together at the Genetik Mini Performance, something unimaginable just months earlier. They were so determined to take part that they persuaded their parents to cut short a family camping trip so they could make it to the rehearsal!
Today, these two young men are not only thriving artistically but have formed real friendships and recently started attending a church youth group. The team have been able to watch them grow spiritually, socially and emotionally and have been reminded of what God can do when young people are given the right space to flourish.
One of their parents shared, ‘The boys were determined to be a part of the performance, which is such a positive move, particularly as they can be anxious about so much. I have never seen them so resolute and enthusiastic about performing. The Genetik groups are so good for them.’
This is what happens when faith meets opportunity. Lives change, voices are heard, and hearts are ignited with purpose.
