With ten Community Groceries already supporting thousands of families right across the UK, we’re seeing God transform countless lives with his love. As members walk through the doors for their shopping and to sign up to courses, they’re hearing the gospel boldly shared in word and deed.
Over in Redcar, the team met Kerry who came in desperate for food and community. Straight away the team got chatting with her, signing her up for a membership and getting her basket filled up. As the team shared about Jesus, Kerry started to feel more hopeful and peaceful, and since then she’s been in every week saying ‘The Community Grocery is an oasis for me with a wonderful atmosphere. Here, I feel loved and accepted and I tell everyone all about this place so they can come too.’ Kerry’s been inviting all her friends and family along to become members of the grocery too and she’s also hoping to find out more about Jesus so has signed up for the Alpha course!
We’ve also been getting to know Sian, a member in Ragworth. A few weeks ago she popped in store to sign up for the cookery course. Whilst there, she shared about her difficult family situations and asked for prayer. As volunteer Fi prayed with her, she felt God encourage her to give Sian more snack bars to take home for her family and Sian immediately burst into tears. She opened up about her financial difficulties and how these had been affecting her mental health as she wasn’t able to get little treats for her daughter. She was so moved by the love she’d received in the grocery and she is desperate to find out more about Jesus.
In Salford, regular member Jackie pops in twice a week and always chats to the team about how her week’s going. Last week she shared with store manager Theresa, ‘Since becoming a member at the grocery, I can keep food waste to a minimum and shop on a budget, helping me feed my family. I feel totally accepted for who I am as there’s no judgement – just pure love and kindness to everyone. I love chatting to the staff and volunteers each week. It’s such a friendly place and I really look forward to my visits!’
As we launch more groceries across the country, we can’t wait to see what else God is going to do. Find out more about our groceries at communitygrocery.org.uk
