Turning Lives Around

Across the UK, young people are saying ‘no’ to knife crime and ‘yes’ to Jesus as they come along to our No More Knives Tour schools lessons and evangelistic gigs.

On Friday, the tour was in Nottingham and band OTC met 1,100 young people there, sharing powerful stories and testimonies as well as facts and stats, to help equip and empower the students to make positive decisions about knife crime.

During a session for year 10 students, team member James shared his story of how he used to carry a knife after being stabbed by a friend, and how he broke free of being involved in a gang. As the young people listened and heard how James found unconditional love, acceptance and value when he met Jesus, you could have heard a pin drop.

Hearing this, the students in the room spontaneously applauded him. It was amazing to see the young people understand the positive impact faith can have on our choices, and how it’s never too late to turn your life around and start making positive decisions.

After the main school lessons, the team held a session for 60 students selected by the school as being most at risk of involvement in knife-related behaviours. OTC played songs inspired by their faith and held Q&A session allowing students to dig deeper into the topic. The young people asked deep questions about grief, how to escape negative relationships and manage fears when walking alone through the streets.

And as the team shared the gospel, 57 of the young people wanted to take a Bible! One young person even stood up in front of his peers he said, ‘If anyone hasn’t given faith in Jesus a go, I’d say go for it! If at the end of your life it’s not true, then at least you’ve been a positive influence on the world. But, if it is true, then you’ve won either way!’ How incredible.

Do be praying for the young people who came along to the No More Knives lessons, that they’d continue discovering more about Jesus. Find out more at message.org.uk/nomoreknives
