‘I now know my value’

Right across the country, our Respect ME teams are busy in schools delivering lessons packed with gospel truths. We caught up with team member, Joe, to hear some of what God’s been doing in the North East.

‘It’s been great being back in schools sharing the love of Jesus and seeing young people engage more and more with the lessons, grasping some deep truths about how they’re loved and valued by God, and being up for really open and thoughtful discussions – it’s been so good to see!

‘I was leading a lesson with year 11 pupils recently about abusive behaviour where I shared about how loved each of us are loved, made for a purpose and worthy of love. At the end of the session, a lad came up to me and said, ‘I now know my value. You’ve helped show me why it’s good to stop self-harming and I’m never going to do it again and instead start thinking better of myself.’ How amazing!

‘In another school, I was talking to students about bullying and how to be a good friend. At the end, I had loads of young people chat to me about what they’d learnt. One young person said, ‘This session taught me a lot and now I’m going to stop bullying!’, and another shared, ‘The session taught me a lot about self-value and worth and now I feel like a million-dollar bill’. But my favourite conversation was when a girl came up to me saying, ‘I’ve decided that I’m going to become a Christian!’

‘It’s amazing to be even a small part of what God is doing in young people and I love seeing that moment where gospel truth clicks for them and sinks in. I met Andrei in a year 9 session on sex and relationships and as the class ended, he came up to me and shared how he’d been impacted by my testimony. We got chatting and started exploring how it often seems like God is giving us some hard rules to live by, but Andrei piped up and said, ‘Now I understand that God wants the best for us and that’s why he shows us how we should live – I get it now!’ Do be praying for these young people as they continue mulling over the big topics we were talking about!’
